Where is Binx?

Binx was taken by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry last Wednesday, October 29th. Her location or state of health is unknown.

Sweet Binx is (was) one of 16 wolf-dog hybrids owned by Bryton Bongard of Greater Sudbury area. Bongard is currently dealing with charges that he illegally kept animals contrary to the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act.

Since the charges were laid, the 16 animals have been officially seized by MNRF though they still reside on the Bongard’s rural property, securely enclosed and being cared for by Mr. Bongard.

Our greatest fear is that at any time, Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry can drive in and just remove all them. They would simply disappear, Mr. Bongard would have no recourse and the public will never be told where they went, were they euthanized?

The Ministry claims they are still trying to develop a plan regarding these animals. We fear that this is not being undertaken in good faith by this government.

Despite information in the public domain, we want to make it known that at this time, there is NO sanctuary placement in Ontario available for these dogs. No sanctuary is being built. MNRF has not ruled out euthanasia for these animals.

These animals have not harmed anyone (person or animal), they are securely enclosed and are being well cared for.

The problem is that wolf hybrids are not recognized in any legislation. They are not wildlife, they are not domestic animals, they are not captive animals. They are in a grey, limbo state.

So instead of recognizing this species appropriately and building out regulations the Doug Ford government wishes to simply discard of them.

We have been told by MNR Staff Sergeant of the Enforcement Branch Iain McGale, that a clear directive has come down from Premier Doug Ford’s office – that this case will not discussed publicly. He then hung up on our colleague who has been working diligently trying to save the lives of these 16 innocent animals.

Yesterday, by colleagues own endless efforts she has located a sanctuary in Alberta who would be willing to take them. Sergeant McGale had indicated he had looked for out of province solutions but could not find any that could help – that is not true.

Question: will the Ontario government stand in the way of an out of province sanctuary helping these animals?

  1. My fear is Binx has already been euthanized why else would the ministry be so secretive??? I feel that these wolf dogs have been taken so well care of that his property should be made into a sanctuary in Ontario. This is what the government should be doing instead of destroying lives of innocent animals.🤬 mad

    1. Hi Valerie, I share your fear. MNR has indicated that Bongard’s being licensed as a sanctuary is not an option. They are not being transparent, in fact I feel they are being deceptive.

  2. Omg if they have a home we’ll cared for haven’t hurt ANYTHING then leave them the hell alone. It’s our tax dollars that pay these cruel people and I vote fir them to find more pressing issues whatvis wrong with these people it’s like the ostriches these people think they are above the law. It’s not these animals fault and they deserve to live and be respected move on return these animals thank you
