Premier Doug Ford, Solicitor General Michael Kerzner, Minister Mike Harris (MNRF) and AWS Chief Melanie Milczynski are not interested in protecting animals – they just are not.
They are more interested in staying in power and keeping their very well paid jobs than putting in place legislation, resources and accountability structures that will send a clear, strong message that Ontario truly will not tolerate animal abuse and neglect.
They are more interested in keeping the special interest groups who have financial interests associated with animals:
- Agriculture industry tends to lean heavily Progressive Conservative
- Powerful voting blocks like Ontario Agriculture Federation, Anglers & Hunters associations – associated with penned hunting facilities
Actions speak louder than words.
Their actions – or inaction speaks volumes regarding the importance of protecting Ontario’s animals and holding people who harm them accountable.
And because of their lack of leadership and lack of moral courage…it falls on the public, the taxpayer, the animal lovers in this province to stand up and have our voices heard.
But what can the average person do?
- write your MPP indicating that you are looking to them to be a leader, not a follower
- contact media about your concerns
- follow your gut, if something doesn’t seem right speak up
- make social media posts directing people to rescues, about supporting wildlife rehabilitation, to not visit places that exploit animals for $$, to do their due diligence.
