The Ford government has brought forward a proposal that would greatly hinder the public’s ability to obtain information through the filing of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.

The government claims they are simply “modernizing” the existing FOI laws to better align with other jurisdictions in Canada.

In this shocking move, the proposal would be retroactive and may jeopardize the public’s ability to learn the secret dealings around the Greenbelt scandal, and the closing of the Ontario Science Centre.

“Once enacted, the new law will mean that records of the Premier, cabinet ministers, parliamentary assistants and their offices would no longer be subject to Freedom of Information laws” reports CBC News.

This proposal will add to the growing distrust of this government, lack of transparency and accountability.
