Ontario is THE ONLY province that mandates dogs and cats to be sold to research labs. Quebec allows it, but Ontario mandates it.
Can you imagine your beloved pet has gone missing. You search everywhere. Your pet could be sold to a research lab to be put through horrendous experiments.
For the majority of people this is unacceptable and they want this stopped.
Under the Ontario Animals for Research Act, labs have the right under the Act to obtain dogs/cats from municipal pounds and humane societies that are contracted by municipalities to provide animal control services. Once an animal has passed the mandatory stray hold period they could be sold to a lab and gone forever.
In August, 2025 a whistleblower from a London, Ontario hospital disclosed inhumane animal testing practices there. The media jumped right on the story, it was followed closely by the public demanding changes to the Ontario Animals for Research Act.
Premier Doug Ford stood in front of the voters of Ontario and seemed shocked and aghast that this was happening in Ontario. It is his legislation that allows and ASSISTS this inhumane practice. He promised that he was going to table legislation to stop this.
In late November, amendments were put forth embedded in Bill 75 – KEEPING CRIMINALS BEHIND BARS ACT, 2025.

Ontarian’s have until January 9, 2026 to provide comments/feedback on this proposed legislation. Please just a few moments to have your say and tell your elected officials that testing on animals is not what you believe in and that the sourcing of dogs/cats from pounds and some humane societies MUST STOP!

We need to address the hypocrisy of Government administration who both support this cruelty and then admit the atrocities must end. How does a legislation claim an animal be non sentient yet distress is not to be tolerated?

Doug Ford also supported penned hunting and the Conservative Government voted unanimously to increase export of horses for slaughter not only to China, but to Japan as well
This practice is inhumane on so many levels right up there with abortion!
Stop using any animals for testing. This is so cruel and painful to these animals that have no voice. What they are doing is barbaric.
This is unbelievable and unacceptable treatment of any living being… it’s cruel and evil to the core and we need to put an end to using animals for testing and to think if I surrender an animal to a shelter where they are supposed to be protected from abuse that they could end up in a situation that abuses them makes me sick
No animal should be forced to suffer! How do people do these jobs with clear conscience!
