A whistleblower (God love them!!!) in London, ONT has blown the lid off of a horrible case of animal cruelty at St.Joseph’s Health Care – London which has ignited a firestorm of public outrage.
Is the public really aware of how wide spread animal testing is in Ontario?
Ford said it was unacceptable for beagles to be used in cardiac testing that had been approved by London’s Lawson Research Institute and St. Joseph’s, and promised to introduce legislation to ban testing on certain animals.
Ford continued on warning Ontario scientists who use cats and dogs in research experiments that he would be “hunting” them down to end such work.
“I understand the mice, the rats, you know, maybe a rabbit, but these poor little beagles — you just look at their faces,” Ford told a news conference in Windsor on Tuesday.

According to the article, published in partnership with Postmedia, researchers were inducing three-hour heart attacks in dogs and puppies before euthanizing them and removing those organs for further study. “I have now directed our team to start hunting down anyone else doing research on dogs or cats,” Ford said Tuesday. “It’s just unacceptable. Imagine your little dog being there and they try to put him into a heart attack. The poor thing. That’s terrible and inhumane.”
But here is the kicker, Ontario has legislation that permits privately owned and operated laboratories to obtain dogs and cats from animal control (aka pounds) for their research purposes. The legislation has strict rules and controls surrounding the procurement, “care” and even disposal of the animals but Ontario completely permits testing on dogs and cats.
So just to be clear, these labs are fully authorized to contact any animal control (pound) and pull dogs and cats that are available for adoption (owner surrenders, animals past stray hold) and use these animals in the experiments. It is the law!
We, the people must DEMAND this “law” is changed!
Owner surrenders are THE MOST VULNERABLE as they have been deemed disposable…no one is searching for them.

What is happening at St. Joseph’s is NOT an isolated situation. This is happening at hospitals and private laboratories ALL OVER ONTARIO.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Animals in Ontario animal research labs and “supply” facilities (they breed animals for research) are NOT protected under the Provincial Animal Welfare Act (PAWS Act). See below content from the Act.
Non-application of the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act, 2019
1.1 (1) Subject to subsection (2), the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act, 2019 does not apply in respect of an animal in the possession of the operator of a registered research facility or of a licensed operator of a supply facility.
Exception
(2) Section 19, clause 49 (2) (f), subsections 49 (4), (6), (8), (9), (10) and (11) and sections 58 and 59 of the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act, 2019 apply in respect of an orca, as defined in that Act, in the possession of the operator of a registered research facility or of a licensed operator of a supply facility.
A CALL TO ACTION:
- Contact your MPP and tell them the Ontario’s Animals for Research Act must be drastically revised to ensure that testing subjects not include dogs, cats, rabbits, Guinea pigs, gerbils and farm/livestock. That testing protocols, care and after care is must be humane and aligned with the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association’s CODE OF PRACTICE FOR CANADIAN KENNEL OPERATIONS:

Yeah that shows how truly insane Doug Ford is. He says oh the poor dogs but who cares about the rats,mice, rabbits. It’s just a show like everything he does with Animal Welfare a big show! Doug Ford doesn’t care about animals! There’s Ag Gag laws, Pened hunting. His puppers acts is a bunch of b*******. He still has BSL. Hasn’t changed. Dola. Still has the animals for research act. PAWS Is useless. Doesn’t criminally charge people that seriously abuse their animals. Freak half these Township don’t have a holding facility for animals when they are picked up by an animal control. They’re sent wherever. Which is kind of interesting since they still have the animals for research act. So if some poor person’s trying to find their animal thats been picked up by Animal Control they won’t know where the heck it is because there’s no holding facility so they just put the animal wherever they can. And then the poor person that’s trying to find their dog has no clue where it is. Where do you even start looking. The stray hold runs out then where does the animal end up. The sad part is there’s probably a lot of people that believe Dog Ford’s b*******
