91% of penalties levied on animal abusers remain UNPAID!!!!
Ministry of Finance red faced with no good answer as to why.
People charged by Provincial Animal Welfare Services (AWS) have a Statement of Account (SoA) that they are responsible for paying.
- Transporting of seized animals
- Vet costs from caring for abused/neglected/seized animals
- Boarding of seized animals
- General care (food etc)
The animals owner is responsible for paying this bill – this Statement of Account.
Obtained through a Freedom of Information request by Humane Initiative, the amount the Ontario taxpayer is left to pay is sickening.
