Last week in Welland (29 Jan 2026) accused animal abuser (killer) Carly Young’s trial continued.
Her and her equally guilty husband Christopher appeared virtually DESPITE the Justice being very clear back in October that she MUST appear in person. She has already been a no-show for previous court appearances!
Carly Young has been charged under the Provincial Offences Act NOT as a criminal offence.
Dr. Ian Welch DVM testified last week for the Crown. His testimony was incredibly upsetting. His testimony made crystal clear the actual injuries Dakota had and the immeasurable suffering she endured.
Knowing this solidified the fact that what Carly did to Dakota was 100% a CRIME.
So why did Carly Young not get charged criminally?
The Crown Attorney in Welland can still do the right thing…BUT we the public need to make this demand clear.

I am doing this as we speak, this is unacceptable smh the person who caused all this suffering needs to be held accountable for this poor animals suffering. Thank you for being a voice for the voiceless.
These people should do time in jail and have a lifetime order prohibiting them from ever having another animal!

I have been involved in the case of the senseless death of Dakota since it happened. Public demonstrations, media coverage and letter writing campaigns has failed to spur the
Crown to charge this case appropriately. It is very clear that the offence Carly Young committed meets and exceeds the threshold
of Criminal Code 445.1 Why is the Crown continuing to send the message that justice and appropriate
consequences just do not matter if it involves harming animals? Charging under the Provincial Offences Act is simply not working. Crowns are not asking for sentences that reflect the seriousness of the offence. The sentences do not sent a clear message that this conduct will not be tolerated. In fact it sends the opposite
message – that if you harm an animal you will receive virtually no punishment. Please do the right thing, be a leader in Ontario and set a precedent; charge appropriately
and ask for sentences that sends the message you claim you believe in.

This person needs to be charged to the full extent of the law. There is no place in this world for people like her and her husband. I say lock them both up for a few years. I honestly don’t think the courts are doing enough for animal cruelty. This is such a sad story.

This person should be behind bars. It’s disgusting that someone would treat an animal this way. The justice system needs to do their job and start protecting defenceless animals.

I hope justice will be served in this case and the perpetrator of this dastardly crime against Dakota receives a lengthy sentence in jail. As well, she should lose the privilege of ever adopting or owning another animal in her life. Our response to criminal and inhumane behavior towards defenseless animals must reflect absolute intolerance. If we do not respond adequately to animal abuse, who are we as a people? I’d say pretty disgusting.

It is absolutely disgusting that criminal charges are not laid at Carly Young and her husband!!! He lived there so he very clearly knew what was going on!!!
It is also completely disgusting how calls from Dakota’s neighbours to different authorities went without action, no aid to Dakota what so ever 😡😡😡😡 That is not acceptable!!!! Dakota should of been removed from those people!! Removed from that place that was her hell ‼️‼️‼️

2) Niagara Region Animal Control & Niagara S.P.C.A
3) Niagara Region Police
All received multiple calls about Dakota’s dire situation yet they did nothing 😭😭😭😭
And now Dakota is dead and they still do not file criminal charges‼️😡‼️😡.
Ontario has to start making examples of these people! People like Carly Young and Jessica Kippen or we will only see more and more animal abuse in Ontario, because they are getting slaps when they should be behind bars!!! Carly Young/ Jessica Kippen/ Samuel Earl/ Stephanie Riddick All these people need to be held accountable for their animal abuse, it’s clear animal cruelty!!!!
Enough is enough!!!

This is a horrific case involving the torture, suffering and death of Dakota. It seems clear that this is a criminal offense yet the Crown is not treating it as such. More and more cases of animal abuse and murder are coming to light and now is the time to set an example that abuse to an innocent animal (over and over again in many cases) will not be accepted by society or our legal system. Please be a voice for those who cannot speak and set a precident. Criminal charges need to be laid against Carly Young and her husband and all the others who abuse animals..
