Animal Welfare Services Failures Out of Control

UPDATE:

Last week, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) opened a criminal investigation into the death of Dakota and for that we are thankful.

This action was the result of mounting public pressure via letter writing campaigns and social media public awareness campaigns by the public.

The Pointer, an investigative newspaper made a firm commitment to get this story out and hold those responsible accountable. Please visit the just published update via the link below.

This public movement to get justice for Dakota was necessary because Provincial Animal Welfare Services (AWS) failed to act in a thorough investigative manner.

  • The plastic bag stuffed in Dakota’s throat was not secured for evidence.
  • AWS failed to interview the key 3 witnesses – did not even contact them!
  • AWS Investigators are not permitted to open criminal investigations or lay criminal code charges. Their powers are limited to what is covered under the PAWS Act.
  • However,
    • If they uncover evidence suggesting possible Criminal Code violations (AKA = a crime) then AWS should be engaging with the police in the local jurisdiction to present the evidence they have and ask for police to take a look. AWS DID NOT DO THIS!
    • The necropsy results clearly showed the level of suffering and distress inflicted and the fatal result met a criminal threshold AWS DID NOT SEEK POLICE ENGAGEMENT!

Why didn’t (doesn’t) AWS do their job? Why didn’t the AWS Inspector interview ANY of the main witnesses?

Why must animals continue to suffer and abusers get away with such cruelty?

Carly Young and her husband Christopher Young have completely flipped the bird at the Provincial Offences Court.

  • Just not showing up (in person or virtually) on scheduled dates
  • Not showing up in person even when directed that they must appear in person
  • Arguing with the Justice incessantly throughout the proceedings

Carly Young’s next scheduled court “appearance” is April 27th. The Justice has so ordered that Carly appear in person in court. They were fighting this as the ZOOM call faded out.

Once again, The Pointer has been on top of the story since Day 1, asking the deep questions and we are grateful that they have kept Dakota’s story alive.

The latest news was published last night (March 18).
