Whether it be “hot” yoga or just standard puppy yoga…there is something you need to know.
- Puppy Yoga is not cute!
- Puppy Yoga is not therapeutic or beneficial to the animals social development.
- You are not supporting a rescue by participating in a puppy yoga class.
That puppy is being exploited for profit let’s be perfectly straight.
An ethical rescue would NEVER let their puppies be USED in this manner. And they are being used, exploited to make money for the studio and the breeder. Your yoga fee is not going to help a rescue!
This business probably envisions this as a win-win proposition; the puppies draw in clients AND they are helping a rescue. And they believe that because that is what the supplier of the puppies is telling them.
These puppies are coming from:
- A backyard breeder
- a puppy mill via a broker
- or directly from the puppy mill
Dollars to donuts:
- the puppies you see in a yoga studio are not fully vaccinated or dewormed
- Their immune systems are not fully developed – it is 100% irresponsible to be put a puppy in that environment
- The yoga studio is not being properly – properly disinfected to guard against transference of highly contagious diseases
- The money you just spent to attend this class is NOT going to help rescue puppies or care for sick puppies. It is pure profit to the studio and the unethical breeder/broker that they modified their business model to achieve
Parvo, distemper and lepto are ramped and so incredibly contagious. A yoga studio is a Petri dish for bacteria and disease.
If you go to go, or have a yoga studio in your neighbourhood that is offering puppy yoga – go in and ask to speak to the owner/manager.
And without attacking them ask some very specific questions:
- Where are the puppies coming from?
- Ask to see their vaccine certificates and not just one cycle but 3!
- Ask about their disinfection protocols and give them literature on how to property disinfect.
- Ask what is the rescues adoption process? Is it thorough, do they do home visits and vet checks? Will they ALWAYS take their dogs back down the road?
We as animal lovers must advocate for their safety – please stand up and challenge a business conducting puppy yoga sessions.
