Let us never forget the repeated calls to Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) to help Dakota. They were all ignored. On a blistering hot July day in 2024 the worse fears came true – the Young’s finally killed her!!!

We pushed and pushed for an investigation and for criminal charges under Canada’s Criminal Code Statute 445.1 – once again the system failed to protect the unprotected and hold those responsible accountable.

Dakota you will never be forgotten.

Carly Young’s trial is on Thursday, January 29 in Welland court, 9am, courtroom 103.

One final note…due to mounting complaints against Ontario’s Animal Welfare Services, the Ontario Auditor General has commenced with a year long, in-depth investigation of the provincial agency. Humane Initiative was one party interviewed by the Auditor General’s team and we will be providing evidence of AWS’s failure to protect animals, of AWS continued lack of response to inquiries and their complete lack of transparency and accountability. The Auditor General’s report, once completed will be presented to the taxpayers of Ontario.

    1. Thank you for reaching out. If you have a few moments, please send that email to the Welland Crown Attorney I reference in the post. It really does matter that they hear our voices!

  3. Having been an animal lover from the time I could walk and have rescued many animal I am dismayed and disgusted by this individual who could be so cruel to a living being. I hope that this case has a positive outcome and she is prosecuted to the highest charge. Many times, how people regard animals spills over onto people….I hope the court keeps this in mind.
