The response from the Heiniu community has been nothing less than phenomenal!
What Aurora Animal Control did to Heinui has touched a raw nerve and people are responding in ways that give you hope!
- Doing the right thing matters
- Staying silent is not an option
- Humanity outweighs politics
- There really are many good people in this world and their moral courage is awe inspiring
- It truly does take a village!
- Every one of us can make a difference
So while the management team of Aurora continues to underestimate the sheer disgust of people towards what happened and how this crisis is being managed, we will carry on every day not letting people forget what these two AC officers did and how this town’s management put self protection before anything else!
Our next peaceful protest is Tuesday, June 23 at Aurora Town Hall – 6:30 pm
We will keep the pressure on Provincial Animal Welfare Services (AWS – PAWS) to ensure that they do a full and robust investigation into the actions of Hailey MacGillivray and Noemi Veszmeg.
Let us all remember in a matter of 5 days – PAWS did 2 – yes TWO full 180 degree flips.
- Initially AWS indicated “they were all over this case” and that this issue had “gone to the highest levels”.
- Then they did their first flip by stating “we have no authority to investigate another service or its procedures.
- Humane Initiative, who is well versed on The PAWS Act legislation and regulations could not find anywhere that spoke to this lack of authority. We messaged the lead AWS Investigator.
- The next day, this investigator emailed me back stating we are correct – and AWS would be investigating – the second 180 degree flip.
In our experience with AWS – we have very little confidence that this investigation will result in Provincial Offence Act charges against these two AC officers.
That is why it more critical than ever we – our Heiniu Community stay diligent – keeping this story front and centre and applying pressure to both AWS and the town of Aurora.
