In July 2022, the Ontario government significantly revamped the Standards of Care for OUTDOOR dogs.
Despite heavy lobbying by animal welfare advocates, Standards of Care were ONLY revisited for outdoor dogs.
The Standards of Care for indoor animals (including commercial breeding facilities) are woefully unchanged. They are very weak, vaguely worded that makes compliance measurement – therefore enforcement very difficult.
Humane Initiative along with other animal welfare advocates will continue fighting for these Standards of Care to be rewritten in order to provide the protections animals deserve.
